Konami ends fiscal year with 22% rise in profit

Profit up to $143m; revenues slide 15% on previous year

Konami has reported its fiscal year-end financials, revealing a reduction in sales for the year but a rise in profitability.

For the year ending March 31, 2010 the company reported profit of ¥13.3 billion ($143.4 million) - a 22 per cent rise on the previous year.

Revenues however took a hit, falling 15 per cent to ¥262.1 billion ($2.8 billion).

The company's digital entertainment division on its own created net revenue of ¥142.6 billion ($1.5 billion) - a reduction of 24 per cent.

Operating income for the division was ¥21.5 billion ($231.8 million) - down 48 per cent on the prior year.

The company noted that it had released a wide variety of games over the year, including popular sports and TV animated series, new IP Loveplus and movie-licensed titles for the overseas markets.

Major titles for the company released during the fiscal year included Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and Silent Hill Shattered Memories.

Konami said that it expected profits to rise 1.4 per cent to ¥13.5 billion ($145.6 million) in the 2011 fiscal year and revenues to increase by 8.7 per cent.
