Just Cause 2 demo downloads hit 2 million

Stat-tracking reveals detailed in-demo achievements as retail release looms

The demo of forthcoming title Just Cause 2 has been downloaded more than 2 million times, according to publisher Eidos.

Launched on March 4 on Xbox Live Marketplace, the PlayStation Network and PCs the demo is claimed to be one of the largest ever for an open world game.

Eidos suggest that the 2 million+ players of the demo have already driven the equivalent distance from Earth to the moon and back four times. 30 million inhabitants of the fictional island of Panau have been killed in total, including 2.5 million headshots.

Through stat-tracking, Eidos has calculated that a total of nearly 1 million drivers have been thrown from hijacked vehicles and 27,000 piñatas have been destroyed. Players have also BASE-jumped twice the equivalent of freefall through the Earth's core, pole-to-pole.

The full game, developed by Swedish team Avalanche Studios, is due for release on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on March 23 in North America and March 26 in PAL regions.
