Interplay returns with sequels and MMO plans

Company to begin in-house development and seeks funding for MMO based on Fallout IP

Interplay Entertainment is to return to game development with plans for a number of sequels to its hit franchises and an eye on the MMO market.

Announcing its earnings results for 2007, the company said it would be using the proceeds of the sale of the Fallout licence to help reboot the company with new titles, while it also seeks funding for an MMO based on the Fallout franchise.

Net revenues for the year ended December 31, 2007, were USD 6 million, primarily from the sale of the Fallout IP for USD 5.75 million.

Obtaining the licence back the company is now seeking funding to create a massively multiplayer game based on the Fallout brand, while working on sequels to Earthworm Jim, Dark Alliance, Descent and MDK.

The company has also said it is recruiting new talent and bringing games development in-house.

"2007 set the foundation for our growth strategy," said Interplay CEO Herve Caen.

"Going forward, we have the vision, unique intellectual property, and low debt and operational costs to help us pursue financing for our various projects.

"Our new website will streamline our ability to communicate development progress with the public, share brand information with the fans and support our customers," he added.
