Gears of War 2 sales hit 5 million worldwide

Microsoft celebrates milestone with new budget-priced release

Sales of Epic Games' Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 2 have now hit 5 million units worldwide, according to publisher Microsoft.

The series as whole, including both Xbox 360 and PC versions of the first game, has now sold over 11 million units worldwide. To celebrate this success Microsoft has announced plans for Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection, a compilation including all previously released add-ons for Gears of War 2.

Also included in the new release will be new multiplayer and campaign content known as Dark Corners. This will include seven new multiplayer maps and a previously deleted campaign chapter entitled Road to Ruin, which features an "all-new stealth mode" for the player characters.

An introduction to the new chapter from design director Cliff Bleszinski is also included, along with an Xbox Live theme, poster and strategy guide. Other existing content in the compilation includes the Flashback, Combustible and Snowblind map packs.

The new title will be released worldwide on July 28 for USD 19.99 (EUR 19.99/GBP 14.99). On the same date the Dark Corners content will also be available as a download from Xbox Live, priced at 1,600 Microsoft Points (USD 20.00/EUR 19.20).
