Gears 2, CoD 5 lead November software sales

Epic's shooter has attach rate of 13 per cent, older Wii titles prove strong during month

Microsoft and Epic's Gears of War 2 was one of the biggest selling games in the US during November, shifting 1.56 million units and gaining an attach rate to the console of 13 per cent.

NPD data for the month shows Activision's Call of Duty: World at War on the Xbox 360 sold 1.41 million units, and a further 597,000 copies on PlayStation 3.

Nintendo titles still performing strong in the top ten included Wii Play, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Music, in a month where total software sales grew 11 per cent.

Although not included in the console numbers, NPD noted that Activision Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King sold 1.4 million copies.

"Our Consumer Spending Indicator shows that videogames is the category consumers are least likely to cut back on this holiday," noted Anita Frazer of NPD.

Sales of software, hardware and accessories topped USD 2.91 billion during the month of November. Hardware figures can be seen in detail here.
