GameStop creates new head of digital position

Shawn Freeman to oversee company's online strategy

GameStop has recruited Shawn D Freeman into the newly created role of senior vice president and general manager of digital business, it has announced.

The move follows the company's increased focus on digital with the creation of a general manager of digital media position earlier in the year and the news that it is considering making acquisitions in order to boost its digital distribution market.

In his new role, Freeman will be responsible for overseeing and cultivating the company's digital strategy. His duties will involve working with its newly formed Digital Ventures group in order to maximise online retail sales and digital aggregation business.

Previously, Freeman has spent nearly 20 years working in senior management roles for several leading online businesses, including TicketMaster, and

"Shawn will help bring together and integrate key components to our digital strategy to not only participate in emerging trends in casual, online and mobile gaming, but shape, lead and create new market opportunities."
