Gamescom confirmed for August 2010

Cologne event to return for a second year following "positive results" this year

Koelnmesse, the event location that hosted the inaugural Gamescom consumer show in Cologne this year, has announced its intention to return for a second year, running from August 18-22, 2010.

According to Koelnmesse MD, Oliver P Kuhrt, companies are looking to decide on their attendance for next year at a much earlier stage, and while the show was described as a success, he sees some areas for improvement.

"Together with our partners we intend to pick up on the success of the Gamescom premiere in the coming year and successively expand on the largest event and entertainment highlight for interactive games and entertainment," he said in a statement.

"Market research has confirmed the positive results of Gamescom and at the same time shown where the potential for optimisation lies," he added, noting one aspect would be better integration of the trade fair, festival and GDC Europe conference.

"Compared with the previous year we are noticing that the industry is approaching their plans for participation in Gamescom 2010 much earlier and with more decisiveness after the successful initial event. We are very pleased about this positive signal and display of trust on the part of the industry."

The statement followed the first meeting of the event's advisory committee, which includes Kuhrt, Olaf Wolters (BIU), and members from the city of Cologne and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
