Dare to be Digital calls for entrants to 2010 competition

Winning student or graduate teams to receive BAFTA nomination

The international game design competition Dare to be Digital is calling for submissions to this year's event.

Organised by the University of Abertay, Dundee, the competition - now in its eleventh year - is open to student and graduate programmers and artists, working in teams of five.

Teams should have game ideas targeted for the platform of their choosing - social networks, mobile, PC or console - and, if selected, be prepared to spend 10 weeks over the summer turning their ideas into fully functioning prototypes.

At the end of the 10 weeks the teams then present their games to an audience of thousands at Dare ProtoPlay, part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe held in August. Three selected winners will go forward as the sole three nominees for the BAFTA Ones to Watch Award.

"Being finally selected to take part in Dare to be Digital is a fabulous opportunity and many of our past competitors have gone on to achieve great things in industry or even publish their game," said Elaine Russell, Dare project manager.

"Even if you don't have a team you should visit the Dare website to find out how you can be put in touch with other potential entrants and form a team entry. Some of the most successful teams are ones where the members have found each other for the first time to enter the event."

The deadline for entries is March 28. Details of how to enter can be found at the competition's website.
