Dare to be Digital 2009 launches

Abertay-based student competition to feature over 70 students from 9 countries

This year's Dare to be Digital competition, based at the University of Abertay in Dundee, has officially launched today.

The event, now in its tenth year, will see over 70 students from nine different countries battle it out over the next ten weeks to create a finished videogame.

"Dundee is the perfect place for a gathering of such brilliant talent," said Abertay's director of business development Paul Durrant. "We are proud of Dundee's position as a UK leader in computer games and of course, proud of our contribution to an industry which brings large local investment and employment opportunities.

"Here the finalists will have access to some of the finest minds in the industry who will provide mentoring support, and thanks to the generous support of our technology partners they will be using the very latest in game development technology. This really is an opportunity like no other."

The students will all be housed at the university this year, for the first time, with previous winners in with a chance of picking up the BAFTA One to Watch award.
