Community-built MMO will be racer, reveals Perry

Shiny Entertainment founder Dave Perry has revealed more details of the new massively multiplayer online title he is producing together with Acclaim and thousands of volunteers.

Shiny Entertainment founder Dave Perry has revealed more details of the new massively multiplayer online title he is producing together with Acclaim and thousands of volunteers.

The game, which is so far known only as Top Secret, will be designed by and for gamers. As announced last month, Perry will reward the volunteer who makes the most significant contribution to the development process with the chance to direct their own fully-funded, Acclaim-published MMO.

Now the Top Secret forums are live and Perry has announced that more than 23,000 people have signed up to take part in the project. He has also disclosed that the MMO will be in the racing genre.

"It's really exciting to see over 23,000 people focused in one direction," he told GamesIndustry.biz.

"For our first project we'll make a racing game, simply because as a genre it really needs fresh new ideas. We're betting that with 23,000-plus developers we'll be so buried in new ideas, it's going to be tough to choose between them all - a nice problem to have."
