Bioshock 2 takes number 1 position in UK chart

Game beats Mass Effect 2 to become biggest release of year so far

Bioshock 2 entered the UK all-formats chart at number one this week with sales exceeding those of last week's number one Mass Effect 2, making it the biggest release of the year so far.

In turn, Mass Effect 2 was knocked down to eigth position with a decrease of 58 per cent in sales.

Ubisoft's Just Dance remained at number two from last week, and FIFA 10 saw a 53 per cent increase in sales elevate it to number three following price promotions at retail.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 slipped from three to four, and Dante's Inferno dropped from four to nine.

Moving in the opposite direction was SEGA's Bayonetta, which rose from 38 to number 10.

Mass Effect 2 slipped from first to eighth place over the course of one week with a major decrease in sales with the only aspect that changed being that Bioshock 2 was released? Strange.

Everyone that was likely to buy ME2 as a 'must buy' already had it by the time Bioshock2 was released, and then went and bought that as well. Or is that just me? Ah, this must be why the missus complains I do nothing but play games...

Once more DLC becomes available for ME2, and the customary price drops kick in I would imagine we'll see it move back up the charts again.

Most likely due to pre-orders counting towards the day one sales of Mass Effect last week. It's still no.2 on the 360 Chart after Bioshock 2. If ME2 were multi-format, it would likely have had higher position all formats. All other titles below it, except of course the Wii titles, and most above it, are multi-format and benefit at retail from greater user install base across platforms.

It will be interesting to see how the charts fare with the release of GOW 3 later onwards in the month. ME2 and Bioshock 2 are certainly occupying most of my personal time after Alex, you're not the only one
