FIFA 22 to include Preview Packs from launch

The feature gives players the ability to see the content of a loot box prior to purchase

EA has announced that FIFA 22 is to include Preview Packs from launch, a feature that lets players see what's inside the title's loot boxes prior to purchase.

The feature had been trialled in FIFA 21, with EA saying the initiative was a success.

"Following a positive reception from fans after their introduction in FIFA 21, Preview Packs will be available in FIFA 22 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and PC," the company said in a blog post. "As a reminder, Preview Packs are a pack type that allow you to see all the specific Items contained within. Once you have seen what is in the pack, you can choose to buy the pack, with either FUT Coins or FIFA Points."

The Preview Packs will continue existing alongside 'traditional' loot boxes, that don't let you see their content.

"At launch you can expect to see the following: the Premium Gold Pack will be available for Preview on a 24 hour refresh timer alongside the non-Preview version," EA continued. "The Premium Silver Pack will be available for Preview on a 24 hour refresh timer alongside the non-Preview version."

Last year, EA introduced FIFA Playtime, which gives players an overview of how much time and money they've spent in the game and the ability to set spending and Ultimate Team limits.

We talked to EA's Chris Bruzzo last August, who responded to loot boxes criticism and said that 78% of FIFA 21 players never spend money in-game, and that nine out of ten FIFA Ultimate Team packs are earned rather than purchased.
