Tencent opens new office in Los Angeles

New location will house approximately 150 employees

Tencent America has opened a new office location in Los Angeles.

The new spot -- dubbed as Tencent L.A. -- is situated in Silicon Beach and will house around 150 employees to begin with.

The company will add new positions across its game design, development and engineering departments over the next three years.

Tencent now has five offices in the US, situated in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Irvine, Seattle and New York. According to the company, the new L.A. based office will consolidate Tencent's existing Los Angeles locations.

As well as physical expansion, Tencent has made a record number of mergers and acquisitions in the last year. The Chinese firm invested in 31 games industry-adjacent deals in 2020.

The investment continued into 2021, with Tencent acquiring minority stakes in both Remedy and Bohemia Interactive.
