Larian opens new studio in Barcelona

New team is comprised of former BlitWorks staff, acquired as part of asset deal

Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios has unveiled a new office in Barcelona.

The team will be made up of former BlitWorks engineers, a studio acquired by Larian in an asset deal. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BlitWorks is best known for delivering console and mobile ports of indie titles, as well as the Nintendo Switch port of Larian's Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Additionally, BlitWorks itself will continue to operate independently as a publisher, while its development team will focus exclusively on Larian titles from now on.

"BlitWorks' story with Larian goes way back," said BlitWorks co-founder Tony Cabello. "After porting most of the best indie games to console, we were challenged to port Divinity: Original Sin 2 to Nintendo Switch and without knowing, that was the start of a long-lasting relationship.

"No need to say fitting DOS2 on Nintendo Switch was one of the most difficult projects we've ever done, but working with Larian was simple and straightforward, we felt at home."

The Barcelona office is Larian's seventh studio, joining established teams in Dublin, Ghent, Saint Petersburg and Quebec, as well as new locations in Kuala Lumpar and Guildford.

Larian launched Baldur's Gate 3 in early access in October last year.
