Last Of Us HBO series casts Pedro Pascal as Joel

Bella Ramsey has also been chosen to play Ellie

The Mandalorian's actor Pedro Pascal has been cast as Joel in HBO's adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The publication also revealed that Bella Ramsey has been chosen to play Ellie. The English actress is known for her role as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones and for voicing the titular character of Netflix animated series Hilda.

HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us is co-written and co-produced by Craig Mazin -- creator of acclaimed limited series Chernobyl -- and Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog's co-president and creative director, and The Last of Us' writer.

The pilot will be directed by Kantemir Balagov, who won the Best Director Award in the indie category Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 for his work on Beanpole.

Announced in March last year, The Last of Us TV show will be the first series from PlayStation Productions, in partnership with Sony Pictures Television, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog.
