Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality finishes with $8.1m raised

The Itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has raised more than $8.1 million for charities related to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The bundle was on sale for ten days, in which it was purchased by around 810,000 people for an average price of $10. The $8.1 million raised represented 163% of its $5 million target.

While the amount raised is huge, the bundle was also notable for what it contained: 1,704 games from 1,361 individual creators, which could be purchased for as little as $5.

That included many high-profile independent titles, including Night in the Woods and Overland from Finji, Matt Makes Games' Celeste, and Laundry Bear Games' A Mortician's Tale.

"We live in a time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people," Itch.io said in a statement. "We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can."

This is one of the largest donations made by the games industry in support of Black Lives Matter since the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police on May 25.
