Bioware, Beamdog devs unveil Summerfall Studios

Melbourne-based indie from Liam Esler and David Gaider will focus on "character and narrative-driven" games

Bioware veteran David Gaider has co-founded Summerfall Studios, a new independent developer based in Australia.

At this point, not much is known about Summerfall Studios beyond its name, its focus on "character and narrative-driven" games, and its location in Melbourne, Australia.

The studio was co-founded in October 2018, but it has been in stealth mode until now.

One of the founders, David Gaider, worked at Bioware from 1999 to 2016, mostly as a senior writer on franchises like Dragon Age. He then worked at Beamdog for two years as creative director.

The second founder and managing director, Liam Esler, worked at Beamdog for three years between 2013 and 2016, among other creative and production roles. Esler was a key figure in the organisation of Game Connect Asia Pacific and in bringing the GaymerX event to Australia.

Summerfall Studios will announce its first project -- " an illustrated character-driven adventure" -- at PAX Australia on October 11, which it will partially fund with a Kickstarter campaign.
