Amazon reportedly ends Prime Video on Wii U, launches it for VR

Company offering a $25 credit toward Fire TV services for Wii U Prime users

Amazon appears to be discontinuing its Prime Video service on Wii U consoles beginning in September.

In a post on ResetEra, one user shared an email from Amazon stating that it would no longer be supporting Prime video on the Nintendo Wii U beginning September 26, 2019. The email also offered a $25 credit toward select Fire TV devices as a potential replacement for the Wii U.

Even with the removal of Amazon Prime Video, the Wii U still hosts a larger suite of video apps than the newer Nintendo Switch, including Netflix, Crunchyroll, and others. The Nintendo Switch so far has Hulu and YouTube as its main video services.

This announcement comes alongside Amazon's new support of Prime Video on VR devices including Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, and Gear VR.

GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Amazon for confirmation of Prime Video's removal from the Wii U.
