Adi Shankar producing Hyper Light Drifter TV series

Netflix's Castlevania producer teams up with developer Alex Preston for animated adaptation

The executive producer of the Castlevania animated series on Netflix has teamed up with Heart Machine developer Alex Preston to create a TV adaptation of 2016's Hyper Light Drifter.

In an interview with Polygon, Preston said the series is still in its very early stages and is looking for writers. The team is also considering how the game's top-down, no-dialogue, atmospheric gameplay can translate to TV, and what visual style the show should use.

"The difference between a series and a game is vast in a lot of ways," Preston said. "Hyper Light as a game was pretty atmospheric and kind of overbearing at times. For a series, the question is: how do you sustain and keep your attention on a non-interactive run? Does it get really, really dark and serious? Does it have some levity?"

Shankar has recently led production on both seasons of Netflix's Castlevania animated series, which has been confirmed for a third season as well. He is also working on a Devil May Cry TV series and an Assassin's Creed series.

In an interview with IGN last year, Shankar said his goal is to create a "video game multiverse" and effectively become the "video game guy" of the TV and film industries.
