UK Charts: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the seventh new No.1 of the year

Activision and From Software title narrowly beats The Division 2

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - the new IP by Activision and From Software - is this week's UK No.1.

It is the seventh new game to the top the charts this year, after New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts III, Far Cry New Dawn, Anthem, Devil May Cry V and The Division 2.

The game just narrowly edged Tom Clancy's The Division 2 from the top spot by fewer than 800 copies. Once again, this data only includes physical games sold.

Sekrio sold best on PS4, which accounted for 80 per cent of the sales, with 20 per cent on Xbox One and one per cent on PC.

The action game is From Software's first No.1 since Dark Souls III in 2016. This game sold roughly half as many units as that one - although, of course, Dark Souls is a far more established brand. Sekiro's launch sales are also 30 per cent lower than From Software's 2015 PS4 exclusive Bloodborne. However, these titles are very different, and the market has changed significantly in the last three years. Considering recent performances in the UK physical market place, Sekiro appears to have done quite well.

Outside of that, it's a pretty familiar Top Ten. The Division 2 is at No.2 after slipping 46 per cent in sales week-on-week. The Ubisoft game is still far off the pace of its predecessor, although it's a relatively small drop for a second week on sale, which bodes well.

FIFA 19 swaps places with GTA V at No.3. And Red Dead Redemption 2 now slips behind GTA V in the charts at No.5 (GTA V has been discounted to under £20 this month).

Devil May Cry V, which released two weeks ago and debuted at No.1, drops to No.13. Nintendo Switch games continue to perform well, particularly Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No.6), but also New Super Mario bros U Deluxe (No.10.)
