US Future staff to unionize with Writers Guild of America

PC Gamer, GamesRadar, others join growing industry push for unionization

Today, the US staffs of 11 publications under the Future plc banner announced their intent to unionize with the Writers Guild of America's East chapter. These included gaming publications PC Gamer and GamesRadar, as well as tech publications Tom's Guide, Tom's Hardware, TechRadar, and Laptop Mag.

Those unionizing include writers, editors, photographs, videographcer, copy editors, and social medias from all 11 publications. The group has called for Future to recognize their union so that contract negotiations can begin, with emphasis on fair compensation, severance packages, editorial protections, diversity, and transparency.

In an open letter posted to Twitter, the unionizing publications offered further detail on their goals.

"Future plc believes that 'we all row the boat' - that this company's strength is built on the collective efforts of its workers," the letter reads. "We believe that ideal is best upheld through a fair, collectively agreed-upon contract. We look forward to arriving at that contract through the same sort of teamwork that we devote every day to our verticals."
