Hatch to make games supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals

Games approved by the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development will be available to Hatch Kids premium subscribers

Hatch has agreed with the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) to publish games developed or approved by the Institute that support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The games will be a part of the Hatch Kids offering for premium subscribers, due for launch to consumers in the first markets in Q1 2019. "Play has always been an essential part of our well-being," says Dr. Anantha Duraiappah, Director of UNESCO MGIEP. "Games offer a natural pedagogy to learn, teach and assess in education, and can help develop more attentive, empathic and compassionate individuals, who can in turn help build more peaceful and sustainable societies. We're excited to work with Hatch to bring such games to a wider audience through its cloud gaming service, and to partner with private institutions in our mission in support of SDGs." "As a safe place for children to play, create and learn in an environment completely free of advertising and in-game purchases, Hatch Kids is dedicated to enriching children's lives and bringing families together over great, carefully selected games," says Gunjan Garg, Hatch's Director of Commercial Partnerships. "Partnering with UNESCO MGIEP on our game curation helps us ensure that the games we bring to the service are of the highest quality and promote the well-being not only of our younger players but of society at large." The UN's 17 SDGs range from quality education and gender equality to clean water, sanitation and climate action. UNESCO contributes to the implementation of the goals through its work on education, sciences, culture and communication. MGIEP is UNESCO's first category 1 research institute in the Asia-Pacific that develops programs that promote socio-emotional learning, innovate digital pedagogies and empower youth to build peaceful and sustainable societies around the world, in line with the SDG 4, Target 7.
