Ex-Infinity Ward developers open new studio Winterborn

Seattle-based indie creating tactical RPG based on homemade tabletop game

Winterborn is a new studio founded by former developers from Call of Duty creators Infinity Ward.

The indie's studio head, designer and programmer Kent Gambill previously worked as an engineer at both Infinity Ward and before this Beachhead Studio, contributing to COD: Ghosts, Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare. Artist and designer Moudy Hamo also worked at the Call of Duty studio for several years.

The duo has recruited a team of five around themselves -- with Jack Steele as another programmer, Stephen Boilegh on music and sound effects, and Trevor Osz as social media and community manager -- and are already hard at work on a tactical RPG.

The unannounced game is actually based on a tabletop game Kent devised when he was a teenager, set in a high fantasy world of his own creation. The title is in development for PC and consoles.

"I've had a story I wanted to finish telling for 12 years," Gambill said. "Honestly, it's been a dream of mine to make the kind of game I grew up on and I love tactical RPGs.

"I have this epic story I started telling when I created my own tabletop game when I was 15 years old that lasted almost a decade that I never got to finish, and I always wanted to turn that universe into a video game."
