Hugo Games appoints former King lead for new Berlin studio

Moritz Voss will head up office focusing on match-three games based on existing IP

Hugo Games, developer of Kings of Soccer and the licensed mobile game for TV series Vikings, has announced it will build another studio in Berlin headed up by King veteran Moritz Voss.

Voss was the technical lead in King's Berlin studio for three years, where he worked on Candy Crush Jelly Saga. Prior to this, he spent over six years at HandyGames as both a senior developer and finishing as CTO.

At Hugo's new Berlin studio, Voss will lead a team with a specialized focus in match-three games for existing licensed IP. They will begin by working on a game based on The Adventures of Tintin.

"We consider the hire of Moritz Voss as our new studio lead as a major coup because of his track record at King studio - one of the most successful mobile gaming companies in the world," said CEO Henrik Nielsen. "Moritz Voss was instrumental in building a game studio in Berlin from scratch to over 80 people and we are very proud that he now has joined us for a new challenge at Hugo Games - bringing together a highly experienced Berlin team in the coming months."

This Berlin studio is the second major move by Hugo Games this month, after it acquired Sacramento-based studio 5th Planet Games.
