2K Foundations to provide basketball and STEM education facilities in US cities
New initiative will target "underserved" communities in 12 cities in its first year
2K intends to help "underserved" communities in the US with its Foundations initiative, which will provide sporting and education facilities, "in neighbourhoods that need them the most."
Foundations will refurbish 12 basketball courts in major cities across the United States in its first year - including Cincinnati, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Chicago and Cleveland among others.
The objective of these improved facilities - which will feature "environmentally-safe upgrades" - is to, "create local basketball tournaments and other positive endeavours that promote diversity, sportsmanship, learning and the positive power of community."
The other aspect of 2K Foundations' work relates to education, and technology upgrades for local community centres that promote STEM disciplines among young people. Microsoft will offer its support by providing Xbox One S gaming stations and other computing equipment in the same locations.
"Basketball has been so good to us," said SVP of Basketball Operations Jason Argent in a statement. "We want to pay it forward to the communities that need it most, by helping to enhance the lives of youth both on the court and in the classroom."
