Fortnite had a record 78.3 million players in August

Epic's blockbuster keeps growing in popularity

Fortnite attracted more than 78.3 million unique players in August, according to the latest figures from Epic Games.

The milestone was announced alongside details of the wildly popular game's Fall Skirmish. Epic said that the 78.3 million people who played Fortnite last month was the highest since the game first launched.

That huge number will include the game's various console versions, PC and mobile. Fortnite is also incredibly lucrative for Epic on every one of those platforms; Superdata estimated that it had made $1 billion from in-app purchases by July this year, around the same time that Sensor Tower put its daily mobile revenue at more than $2 million.

Since the game's launch, Epic Games' value has soared to around $8 billion, up from $825 million in 2012.
