Apple, Kabam veterans form new indie publisher Rogue

Label will publish mobile games with a focus on highly detailed, optimized experiences

Experienced industry veterans from Apple, Kabam, Glu Mobile, Sprint, IGN, and more have announced the formation of a new mobile publishing studio called Rogue.

GameDaily reports that former Kabam and Glu Mobile executive Mike DeLaet will serve as CEO of the publishing label, supported by former IGN founder and Apple editorial team manager Matt Casamassina in the role of chief strategy officer.

They will be joined by COO Eric Williams (formerly VP of wireless at NextRadio) and director of technology Chinmay Banker (formerly project manager at Kabam and Glu Mobile).

Casamassina says the company is focused on a high level of polish and detail-oriented work, and will ideally focus on games that can run at 60fps on mobile. The publisher has already established a portfolio of games that includes Rumble Heroes, Tasty Brains, Go Boom!, and Ladder Up!. It has also partnered with Glitch Dash creator David Marquardt for a new game, and has picked up both Chaos Battle League and Olo to be updated and optimized for newer devices.

"Our biggest challenge right now is keeping up," Casamassina told GameDaily. "We're an upstart studio, but nobody at Rogue is a stranger to the games space, we've got relationships for days, and it's been difficult to choose our partners. It's a great problem to have so I'm not complaining. The mobile games space is one gigantic opportunity, as far as I'm concerned. It's evolving daily. And those who change with it will be around to reap the benefits. We think Rogue and its partners are poised to blow up over the months and years to come."
