Gameseek founder returns with toy and video games retailer
Just three months since the website entered administration leaving customers out of pocket
The founder of Gameseek has set up a new games retail business following the collapse of his long-standing online store in May.
The new business is called Toyseek, which specialises in 'predominantly children's entertainment products', although its video games range includes 18-rated products. Toys, fancy dress and arts and craft products are also included in the new venture.
In typical hyperbolic fashion, CEO Stephen Staley expects ToySeek will "fill the gap left behind by the closure of Toys R Us" and that it already has '100,000 products listed and aims to increase this to over one million products in 2019'. The press release claims that Gameseek 'was built from an investment of £53 and became one of the most important video games companies in the UK".
Gameseek became known in its later years for experimental marketplace initiatives and controversial PR campaigns where it offered extremely low price deals to a very select number of customers.
It entered administration quietly in May after more than a decade in business, leaving customers out of pocket as they awaited items that never arrived.
In an email to press, Staley said the administration was "a shock to us all including myself, it happened very suddenly and will be able to speak about that shortly. I am only just getting over that to be honest."
