Last summer's smash success story is back as Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy returns to No.1 in the UK charts for an eighth time.
The Activision game rose 21 places on the back of its release for PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This week the Xbox One version was the best-selling version, but only just - it beat the Switch edition by 250 copies. The Crash remake - which includes visually improved versions of the first three games in the franchise - was a surprise success when it arrived on PS4 last year. The UK physical sales alone totalled more than half a million copies.
The Switch version of Crash is actually the fastest selling Switch game released this year. Although that's perhaps not too surprising considering its lower-than-usual RRP of £30.
The game's improved performance means that the big new entry this week had to be satisfied with second place. The Crew 2 by Ubisoft has so far failed to impress the critics, and the game's launch sales are less than 25% of what the original game achieved back in December 2014. It's worth noting that the original The Crew launched in a very different release window and at a time when digital wasn't quite as strong (these numbers only count physical). Also, The Crew found its audience over time via constant updates and improvements to the game. In other words, don't count The Crew 2 out just yet.
The arrival of new Crash versions and The Crew 2 - plus continued steady sales of FIFA 18 during the World Cup - means that Mario Tennis Aces tumbles from No.1 to No.4. The game's sales dropped by 53%, which is a decent performance for a game in its second week on shelves.
Elsewhere, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus rises 23 places to No.17 following the release of a Switch version of the game. Harvest Moon: A Light of Hope debuts at No.26, with most of the sales coming on Nintendo Switch (78% of sales vs 22% on PS4). And the Far Cry 3 Classic Edition just about makes the charts at No.37.
Meanwhile, a bit of retailer discounting saw sales jumps for Star Wars Battlefront II (re-entry at No.7), Middle-Earth Shadow of War (up from No.25 to No.13) and Destiny 2 (re-entry at No.16).
