UK Charts: God of War scores fifth No.1 as Hyrule Warriors debuts in third

A May promotional campaign sees multiple games jump up the Top 40

Another week and another No.1 for God of War in the UK boxed charts, a position it held despite a 35% dip in weekly sales.

It is now just one more No.1 from equalling the six weeks at the top that The Last of Us achieved in 2013.

Although it will have to beat off competition from another first party release - Sony's Detroit: Become Human - and the remakes of cult hit Dark Souls, which launch next week alongside Xbox's State of Decay 2.

There was one new game in the Top Ten this week in the form of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. It's the second biggest launch for the game so far. The Wii U version, released in September 2014, sold more than double the number posted here. But the 3DS edition, released in March 2016, sold slightly fewer units.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze drops to No.4, but continues to perform strongly.

There has been a big retail promotion these past few weeks called LetsPlayMay, which has resulted in a number of titles rising up the charts during the month.

The biggest riser this week was FIFA 18, which increased 89% and returns to No.2 in the charts. However, this game wasn't actually part of the campaign - just had a separate price promotion.

As for games that were part of the campaign, there are 13 in the Top 40 and four within the Top Ten - LEGO Marvel Superheroes (sales up 3%), Assassin's Creed Origins (down 2% after several weeks of big gains), GTA V (down 6% after big increases in previous weeks) and Call of Duty: WWII (up 7%).

Elsewhere, a few niche games sneak into the Top 40. Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux on 3DS is at No.31, while Dagon's Crown Pro makes No.33.

Here is the UKIE/GfK Top 10 for the week ending May 19th.
