Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have no Steam release or single-player campaign
Treyarch's upcoming game is co-developed on PC by Beenox, joins Destiny 2 on Battle.net
Battle.net users logging in today will notice a new game listed on the left-hand navigation. As a part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's trailer release today, it was revealed that the game's PC version will exclusively live on Battle.net, with no Steam release.
This makes Black Ops 4 the second Activision title to join its Blizzard cousins on the service, following Destiny 2.
VG247 reports that the PC version of the game is co-developed by Beenox, and is being custom-built for the platform. Black Ops 4 on PC will make use of all Battle.net's social features, including chat, partying, and voice chat. Keyboard and mouse adjustments to features such as weapon mechanics and UI will also be unique to the PC release.
The announcement today also confirmed rumors that the game will not include a single-player campaign. Instead, a battle royale mode called Blackout will feature the biggest map Treyarch has ever created, as well as characters, weapons, vehicles, and map features from the franchise at large.
