Jagex shutting down online game portal FunOrb after ten years
Advancements in technology have made it "increasingly difficult to access and play the games"
Free gaming portal FunOrb is to shut down after technological advancements made it "increasingly difficult to access and play the games".
Developer Jagex made the announcement on the FunOrb forums this week, confirming plans to wind down operations over the next three months.
"It has been amazing to see such dedication amongst those of you who have kept coming back to FunOrb over the last ten years," said Jagex.
"However, advancements in software and hardware have made it increasingly difficult to access and play the games on the portal, and that's ultimately led to our decision."
Launched by the Runescape developer in 2008, FunOrb was the Jagex's first major project following the release of its flagship MMO.
As of this week however, it is no long possible to purchase FunOrb memberships, and after May 14 it will not be possible to create new accounts on the platform; the servers will remain online until August 7, 2018.
