Starbreeze partners with Emaar Entertainment VR Park

Swedish developer provides four brand new experience for VR park in world's most visited shopping destination

Swedish game developer Starbreeze has branched out into location-based VR as the leading partner at the Emaar Entertainment VR Park.

Hosted in the 75,000 sq ft Dubai Mall - the most visited shopping and entertainment destination in the world - the VR Park will itself occupy two floors and feature eight VR experiences, all playable on the developer's flagship StarVR 5K 210-degree Virtual Reality HMD headset.

Starbreeze has also announced the launch of four new VR experiences especially developed for the location.

"We are thrilled to be part of launching the VR Park in Dubai and very happy to have found a partner in Emaar Entertainment that share the same vision and focus as we at Starbreeze do for location-based entertainment in VR" said Bo Andersson Klint, Starbreeze CEO in a statement.

"We have had destination-based entertainment as a focus for our VR initiatives over the past years, and now visitors from all over the world can experience our vision for premium VR content not available at home. We see our participation in the VR Park as a showcase for all of our experiences and a must-visit destination for VR enthusiasts and first timers with curious minds alike".

Damien Latham, CEO of Emaar Entertainment, added: "Partnering with leading technology and content providers such as Starbreeze enhances our ability to deliver unprecedented entertainment experiences and push the boundaries of innovation for the industry, creating an ultimate destination for leisure and entertainment in the Middle East."

It's been a period of mixed fortunes lately for Starbreeze. In October year, Starbreeze ceded majority control of StarVR to its partner Acer. Shortly thereafter, it announced record-breaking revenues for Q3 2017, followed by a pre-tax loss of $22.2m for 2017, sparked by the delay of Overkill's The Walking Dead earlier in the year.
