UK Charts: Shadow of Colossus PS4 beats PS2 original in first week sales

Monster Hunter World slips to No.3

The PS4 version of Shadow of Colossus has had a stronger first week than it did when it first launched on PS2 in 2006.

Its first week sales are 73% greater than what its predecessor achieved during the same period, which also debuted at No.1.

It is also the eighth PlayStation exclusive game to top the charts during the course of the last year, joining games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport and Crash Bandicoot.

Shadow of Colossus' success means Monster Hunter World slips down to No.3 following its two-week stay at the top of the charts. The game suffered a 51% drop in sales week-on-week.

UFC 3 retails its No.2 spot, after only suffering a 35% drop in week-on-week sales. FIFA 18 and Grand Theft Auto V are non-movers at No.4 and No.5. That means Call of Duty: WWII has fallen out of the Top Five for the first time since it launched. It's now at No.6 following a 51% sales drop.

Elsewhere, continued strong sales of Nintendo Switch keeps its major games in the Top Ten. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey both retain the No.7 and No.8 spots respectively. Price activity around Assassin's Creed Origins sees the Ubisoft title jump six places to No.9, while The Evil Within 2 and Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition are propelled back into the charts entirely - re-entering at No.10 and No.13 following significant retail promotions. The Evil Within II was on sale for around 10, while Overwatch was available for under 25.

The only other new game in the charts is a Switch exclusive, Dragon Quest Builders, which breaks into the Top 40 at No.31.

Glad to see Evil Within 2 made it back into the top 10. It's a great series. Hopefully it gets a 3rd entry.
