German trade bodies unite to form one organisation

Merger of BIU and GAME gives German industry a single representative association

BIU and GAME have merged to create a single association for the entire German games industry.

In Berlin today, the members of the two disparate associations pledged to come together to better represent the political and social interests of German games companies. The new organisation will be called "game - the German Games Industry Association."

BIU managing director Felix Falk will hold the same position at game, which will represent development, publishing, esports and education, among other key areas.

"Today is a historic day for the German games industry as a whole," Falk said in a statement. "The forward-looking merger of the two associations unites the industry, enabling us to advocate jointly, and therefore even more persuasively and powerfully, for the interests of the entire German games industry."

Following the merger, game will be a shareholder of the Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body (USK) and the Stiftung Digitale Spielekultur, and will host the German Computer Games Awards. It will also be the sponsor of the leading consumer event, Gamescom.

The new association's five-member executive board will be elected today.
