Nexon appoints Jiwon Park as new COO

Park was previously CEO of Nexon Korea, a role that will be filled by the subsidiary's VP of business Junghun Lee

Nexon has appointed Jiwon Park to the newly created role of COO. Park was previously the CEO of the consolidated subsidiary Nexon Korea.

Prior to this appointment, the Nexon Group didn't have a COO, but Park will now work under CEO Owen Mahoney while overseeing the entire company's business and operations.

As the head of Nexon Korea for more than three years, Park was instrumental in the ongoing success of its live games, specifically the highly successful Dungeon & Fighter - which has been very important to Nexon's financials this year.

The CEO vacancy at Nexon Korea created by Park's promotion should be filled by Junghun Lee, who was the subsidiary's vice president of business. Lee's appointment must first be approved by Nexon's board of directors, but as a 14-year veteran of the firm who led the launch of FIFA Online 3, he has the credentials the role demands.

In a statement, Owen Mahoney said that, "Nexon is preparing for a new era, and there are not two individuals more qualified to help us execute on our global strategy."

Nexon made a number of investments during 2017, the most visible of which was the acquisition of the mobile studio Pixelberry in November. It also picked up the publishing and marketing rights to the debut project from First Strike Games, which was formed by developers from 343 Industries.

The company's lowest point of the year was arguably Boss Key's Lawbreakers, which has struggled to recover after an underwhelming launch.
