Applications open for Gamers in Real Life scholarship

Daybreak offers educational expenses and paid internship

Daybreak Game Company has opened applications for its ninth 2016 Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) scholarship competition. The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship for educational expenses and a paid internship for up to eight weeks at Daybreak Games' San Diego studio.

"As a company, we're always looking ahead to the next wave of talent and innovation, and we recognize that starts with education and opportunity," said Laura Naviaux, chief publishing officer.

"For nearly a decade, we've been proud to provide aspiring game designers, artists and programmers a path towards a career in game development and a chance to live out their dreams of working in this exciting and dynamic industry. We're very excited to learn more about this year's hopefuls."

The competition is open to US students aged 18 or over who are currently enrolled at an accredited school in an undergraduate or graduate program pertaining to video games with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher. Full requirements can be found here. Applications will close on June 3, 2016.

The Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) scholarship started when Daybreak was still Sony Online Entertainment, and it awarded its first scholarship in 2008.
