Minority Games and Rezolution Pictures form MinorityVR

Papo Y Yo dev and film company working with A&E for VR experience launching with new Gear VR

Minority Media has made no secret of its enthusiasm for using virtual reality in games, but the company is interested in bringing the tech well beyond the gaming world. Minority today announced a partnership with sister outfit Rezolution Pictures to form a new company called MinorityVR. All three are based in Montreal.

With more than 30 full-time employees already, MinorityVR plans to create VR experiences targeted at Millennials that work as companion pieces to TV shows. Its first confirmed client is A&E Networks, which tapped the company to produce a VR tie-in that will debut alongside the new Samsung Gear VR headset later this month. Beyond entertainment, the company is working on VR content to help with surgical training, pain management, and PTSD treatment.

"VR is a game-changing technology," said co-founder and senior VP Anouk Bourduas. "It will open up new distribution platforms that appeal directly to Millennials, which is a market all broadcasters are keen to develop."
