World Of Warcraft pet raises $1.9m for Ebola

Blizzard and Argi the interstellar goat makes a difference

World Of Warcraft players have helped raised almost $2 million dollars by purchasing a special pet from Blizzard.

Argi, the $10 goat, was put on sale between December 3 and December 31 with 100 per cent of the $10 fee spent going to the Red Cross.

"Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of World of Warcraft players around the world who purchased the Argi pet, we've raised a total of more than $1.9 million USD to support the ongoing Ebola relief efforts in Africa by the Red Cross."

This isn't Blizzard's first charity rodeo, it often offers items in the game with proceeds going to charity and in 2012 an auction of retired World of Warcraft server blades raised $330,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighbourhoods of the game's community -- they contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories," said CEO Mike Morhaime at the time.

"Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences. The best part is that this auction benefits a great charity doing tremendous work in helping children from the U.S. and around the world."
