Disney Magic Castle still on top in Japan

3DS games now account for 9 of the top 10 best-sellers

Disney Magic Castle held the top spot in Japan almost by default last week, with no new releases to challenge its dominance.

This is the third week that Namco Bandai's 3DS title has charted at number one, though it has had precious little competition in that time. Last week's chart also reinforced the dominance of the 3DS in the Japanese market: 9 of the top 10 games were on Nintendo's handheld, the exception being Pikmin 3 on Wii U.

It was also a good week for 3DS hardware, with both models making significant gains over the previous week's sales totals.

The software top 10 is below, with lifetime sales in parentheses:

  • 1. [3DS] Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life (Namco Bandai, 08/01/13) - 41,679 (206,627)
  • 2. [3DS] Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (Nintendo, 07/18/13) - 39,809 (244,638)
  • 3. [3DS] Tomodachi Collection: New Life (Nintendo, 04/18/13) - 28,361 (1,379,177)
  • 4. [3DS] One Piece: Romance Dawn (Namco Bandai, 08/08/13) - 15,711 (40,498)
  • 5. [3DS] Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (Capcom, 07/25/13) - 13,447 (322,764)
  • 6. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo, 11/08/12) - 13,222 (3,377,938)
  • 7. [3DS] Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Nintendo, 03/20/13) - 12,501 (870,745)
  • 8. [3DS] Yokai Watch (Level-5, 07/11/13) - 11,133 (136,711)

  • 10. [3DS] Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (Nintendo, 06/13/13) - 10,322 (253,454)

The hardware chart is below, with previous week's sales in parentheses:
