Ni no Kuni special edition oversold, customer orders cancelled
Avid fans are having trouble getting ahold of Namco Bandai's newest RPG
Some customers who pre-ordered the Wizard's Edition of Namco Bandai's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch are having their orders cancelled by distributor Digital River. Many fans are outraged as it's difficult to even find a copy of the game's regular edition at many retail outlets. Namco Bandai's online store is currently sold out of the regular edition, which is a sore point for users who received a $20 coupon for their cancelled orders.
"We apologize for the discrepancies you may have encountered with your order of Namco Bandai's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - Wizard's Edition. As one of our valued customers, we want to assure you that a Digital River representative will be reaching out to you individually via email to address your specific issue. We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work through this situation," said Digital River in a statement on Namco Bandai's forum.

What some customers should have received.
"Due to an error in our ordering system, the available inventory of Wizard's Edition was oversold by mistake. We want you to know that Digital River does not take this situation lightly. We are implementing process improvements to prevent this issue from happening again and are committed to regaining your trust."
GamesIndustry International has reached out to Namco Bandai for comment.

So, yes... they should have not only produced enough of them, they should have made more to sell direct from their online shop after the pre-order period passed if the response was so great. Here's a case where outraged fans have a reason to be (for a change).
I do hope they can get out more of those boxes, as I went to buy the standard edition at a GameStop near me and it was sold out. Granted, I understand the store didn't get many copies in the first place, but this seems to be selling a lot better than Xenoblade Chronicles, which the shop near me had a load of a few days after release. Then again, the Wii section in general there is a bit overcrowded...
Ah well... I've got a bunch of games to play, so I can wait. Hopefully, this won't end up as an overpriced eBay purchase and we see more on store shelves...

However, this should not have been a problem, not only do they have the Ghibli fans waiting for this, but fans of JRPGs (Level 5 recently being tied to Dragon Quest development). The anticipated lack of anticipation was very wide of the mark for this game. I can only hope this is an isolated incident and not to become the norm for "Specialised Localisations".
