Rocket Ninja secures $7.5m funding

Social games company increases investment in 3D gaming on the web

Social games maker Rocket Ninja has secured $7.5 million in series B funding from European private investor Marcel Boekhoorn - a Dutch entrepreneur with a history of successfully selling his investments.

The company has created its own 3D engine which allows instant play on the web without plug-ins, and launched its first title, Wrestler Unstoppable on Facebook earlier this year.

"3D revolutionised the gaming industry, and it will forever change the social web by delivering a new dimension in self expression and interactivity," said Oded Pelled, CEO of Rocket Ninja.

"There's a need for a company that has the technology, the killer apps and the savvy to showcase compelling 3D in entertainment across the social web. The team at Rocket Ninja has cracked the code for making 3D applications accessible, easy to use and fun."

The funding will be used to increase team size as well as continued work on the Shr3d engine.
