Dark Souls: 1.5 million shipped worldwide

Namco Bandai and From Software ship 620,000 copies of cult RPG in the US alone

Namco Bandai and From Software have shipped 1.5 million copies of cult RPG Dark Souls worldwide.

According to Andrisang, that's 620,000 shipped in the US, 470,000 in Europe, and 40,000 in Asia by Namco Bandai, and 370,000 in Japan, where developer From Software published the game.

The game was only published on PS3 in Japan, and on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the other regions.

Just last week Namco Bandai announced it was increasing its six month profit forecast from ¥3.2 billion to ¥7.8 billion.

So happy to see this news. Hopefully it'll manage to shift a few more after a price drop. Definitely a GOTY for me; a sublime exercise in videogaming rather than hand-holding.

Imo, it is the true spiritual 3D successor to Symphony of the Night and definitely the best game of the year.

No putting the player on a rail ridden with quicktime events, no endless dialog trying to give a wordy exposition to every grain of sand, an open world of expertly interconnected "levels", and although you die often, the game has an incredible fairness about handling death.

This game is proof positive of how good Japanese game design is and that western RPGs might be better than what has been dubbed the jRPG, but still have nothing on an RPG from Japan which is relentlessly pushed by design.

Great news, I love this game, I was worried when a lot of my friends had traded it in because of its difficulty and I saw a shed load of second hand copies in CEX after a week.

In a similar fashion to a semi-popular British yeast-based product, you either love or hate Dark Souls. However, give it a fair chance and get used to the difficulty and it turns out to be utterly fantastic and certainly one of the most unique and daring games of recent times (excepting it's spiritual prequel, natch).

From Software totally deserve all of this and more...

If you ship 1.5 million units in a month, is that really a cult game?
Good job by From Software. I have yet to play Dark Souls as I can't beat Demon's Souls - I always walk the wrong way and get creamed by bad guys way out of my league.

Definitely a Marmite game. Took me ages to get into Demon's Souls but beating it was euphoric. Dark Souls is a completely different game, too, which is great, and feels like the lads put some serious work into making it stand out as a completely new game. Getting cursed twice though is definitely not fun... :P

Great stuff - I hope all those copies sell and From are able to carry the series on. I would guess that if Demon's is able to get a 'sequel' on I believe about 800,000 sales, then Dark should sell enough to warrant a sequel too.

I really hope more people support this game because there are very few games like this in this day and age! I haven't felt this much sense of achievement in a game in a very long time! The satisfaction you get from killing a boss is just awesome.

I freaking love this game. One of the best games I have ever played. I bought for xbox and ps3 to support From, and compare the SKU`s.
