Staggered content hitting PSN store in EU and US

But free 'Welcome Back' package still unavailable and sites struggling with demand

The PlayStation Network Store has returned in the US, Europe and some other territories, although it remains offline in Japan. Content which had been scheduled to go on sale during its six-week absence is being gradually added to the storefront.

However, the free games and PSN Plus membership being offered to customers as part of the 'Welcome Back' compensation package are yet to become available, with Sony saying that the offer is in "the final stages of testing".

Nonetheless, a large list of new content has been published on the US and EU PlayStation blogs, with a further round of content becoming available tomorrow.

Some UK users have been experiencing problems with accessing PSN, receiving an 807 error code when trying to reset passwords or download content. Sony has attempted to allay those concerns by explaining that the problem has been caused by enormous demand, rather than any remaining technical issues.

"There are so many of you accessing the store at the moment that due to the excessive load, it is a little slow," wrote Nick Caplin on the EU PlayStation Blog.

"We are improving it as I write this, so you will see improvements in speed as the day progresses."

Apparently Sebastian if you're having trouble try to get into the PSN store a couple of times in a row and it should let you in - but it's a bit unstable and lots of error messages pop up at the moment.

At least, this is what I've been told by a couple of guys from my PSN friends list on a forum. Basically, it is live now but still very flaky. Personally, I'll probably wait a few days before going, when hopefully most of the initial traffic should have abated and it should be a bit more stable.

This is a joke. I thought the whole point of it being down was so when it was back up it would be plain sailing. But instead it's already proving to be unreliable and broken. I feel sony are just polishing a turd... I couldn't download any of the things I needed to.

Excusing the language, i think it's less polishing something and more adding complexity to that same something.... It's going to cause a lot of problems because the system probably was never designed to handle them.

I think it's sad that they held off so long on the premise of "making it right and secure" and what they've only achieved when it's finally out is security through unusability.

This was pretty much as expected - everyone using PSN at the same time would overload the servers. I just hope that when the Welcome Back games are available to download, there won't be a time limit associated with it.

@Steven: I imagine that when the "Welcome Back" content is actually available, then the 30 day PS+ timer will begin, but the "free forever" titles such as LBP should always be there for download, assuming they remain in the PS Store library.

According to a statement Sony US made, you would have 30 days to claim your free forever titles as well.

Well the Huge damand on return was to be expected. I got what I needed to download pretty easily, no error codes and it downloaded pretty fast so I am happy. I did set it to download at 8Am UK time before I left for college, so its prob not as busy thn.
