Ubisoft cancels We Dare UK release

"Public reaction" blame for last-minute change of heart

Publisher Ubisoft will not release its upcoming Wii and PS3 title We Dare in the UK.

The party game was to be launched in Britain tomorrow, but had been subject to heavy tabloid criticism due to a number of innuendo-led minigames.

Said the game's publisher to the Telegraph, "following the public reaction to the 12+ rating of We Dare, Ubisoft has made the decision not to sell the game in the United Kingdom."

PEGI had previously defended the 12+ rating as appropriate, while Ubisoft had arranged to add a 'Parental Discretion Advised' sticker to the game's packaging.

There is no word as yet whether Ubisoft will later seek release with a different age certificate.

The game's US release was also cancelled last week, but a European launch is still on the cards.
