Autodesk announces 2012 versions of 3ds Max, Maya

Entire dev tools range updated, including SoftImage, Beast and Kynapse

Software firm Autodesk has announced its latest iterations of industry dev tools 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage and more.

The 2012 version of 3ds Max includes a new accelerated graphics core, enhanced rigid-body simulation and assorted extra painting and sculpting tools. Headlining the new version of Maya are viewport updates such as full-screen effects and editable motion trails.

Also updated for the 2012 line-up are Softimage, Mudbox, Motionbuilder, Beast, Human IK and Kynapse.

Observed Autodesk senior VP Marc Petit, "Our 2012 product releases harness the latest hardware technology to increase performance and deliver stunning graphics in the viewport.

"We have also enhanced interoperability and simplified pipeline integration, making it easier for our customers to take advantage of specialized toolsets; and provided new creative tools for modern production trends like virtual moviemaking and stereoscopic 3D production."
