OpenFeint goes live on Android

Social service allows cross-platform play on iOS and Android smartphones

Social gaming network OpenFeint has gone live on Android platforms, supporting 20 games at launch.

The network, which claims to have 37 million mobile players, has also released the Feint Spotlight app, allowing users to search for games and connect to the Android community.

"Android users deserve great games but haven't had access to enough of them," said Jason Citron, CEO of Aurora Feint.

"Hundreds of thousands of people activate Android phones every day, and there is a clear need for high quality games in the marketplace. The major wireless carriers are partnering with us to select the best games from iOS to bring to Android."

OpenFeint will allow users to compete with each other across platforms, opening up further the booming smartphone gaming market.

OpenFeint offers leaderboards, achievements and friending, and is available for developers as a free, open source SDK.
