Flight Control sells over 3m copies in 18 months

Firemint's iOS game still in App Store top 30 in 64 countries

Firemint's air traffic control game Flight Control has now sold over three million copies in its iOS incarnation, and remains in the top 30 paid games of the App store in 64 countries.

The game is also available on Nintendo DS and non-iOS mobiles, and will be launched on PlayStation 3 alongside the release of Move on 15 September.

Firemint won an Apple Design Award earlier this year for the iPad conversion of the game, alongside another for its iPhone title, Real Racing.

Firemint's community manager, Alexandra Peters, told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview earlier this year that she thinks the day of low investment successes on the iPhone and iPad are over.

"I think the days where you can do something quite simple, and do it on a small budget, are probably gone," she said.

"These days with the amount of apps that are out there, and the increasing number of games coming out every day - and some of the really high-end developers who are now getting into it - I think if you're going to make an iPhone game and you want it to be commercially successful, you have to invest in it."
