Amazon challenges retail with 99c release day delivery

US online store ditches $6 delivery tithe for major games

Amazon US has announced plans to drop its release day delivery charges for many games from $6 to 99 cents, in what appears to be a concerted move to battle high street retail.

The online store already offers significant reductions in game RRP, and for the time being is able to sidestep sales tax for games in many states.

While previously it had charged $5.99 to ensure games arrived on their launch date, this has been sliced to 99 cents (and remains free for Amazon Prime customers).

Not all titles are applicable for the offer, but confirmed so far are Call of Duty: Black Ops, Little Big Planet 2, Halo: Reach and Fallout: New Vegas.
