PlaySpan hires Stevie Case as sales VP

Romero's former partner and beau joins virtual goods firm from LiveGamer

Former LiveGamer executive Stevie Case has joined virtual goods and currency outfit PlaySpan.

Case first found fame after besting John Romero in a Quake deathmatch, leading to a now-defunct but much-discussed relationship with the flamboyant former id man.

She has also worked at Ion Storm, co-founded Monkeystone Games with Romero, lead a development team at Warner Brothers and was director of business development and sales at Tira Wireless.

Most recently she was senior director of business development at LiveGamer.

"It's great to be a part of PlaySpan's seasoned executive team and I am looking forward to contributing to the company's overall success," said Case about her appointment.

"PlaySpan has an impressive track record and boasts relationships with some of the biggest brands in the business. I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with the clear industry leader and help prepare our customers and partners for the next phase of industry growth."

PlaySpan chief executive Karl Mehta voiced Case's praises and aptitude for the job: "Stevie is a widely respected figure in the gaming industry and she has a combination of passion, professionalism, and knowledge that is unmatched,"

"We are very excited to add her talents and business acumen to our work force, where we will be able to leverage her experience and contacts to expand our presence globally."

In her new role, Case heads up current contracts, including most of the leading social game studios, and the pursuit of new clients.
